The importance of ERP systems in modern entrepreneurship
The importance of ERP systems in modern entrepreneurship
In an era where businesses are called upon to do more with less, ERP systems are becoming the ally of every modern business.

In an ever-changing economic environment, businesses are challenged to manage huge volumes of data, complex processes, ever-increasing tax obligations and constant demands from customers, suppliers and partners. In this context, ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems are no longer a luxury – they are a strategic necessity.
Why are ERPs more critical than ever?
ERPs act as the “heart” of a business, unifying all key departments and functions (accounting, warehouse, sales, procurement, human resources) on a single platform, achieving:
- More efficient resource management
- Reduce costs and errors
- Full real-time visibility
- Instant decision-making ability
- Compliance with tax and regulatory rules
- Improvement of customer service
However, the technological organization of a business is not enough to be functional and efficient; it must also be fully in line with the legislation, in particular with the following obligations:
1. Electronic Invoicing – myDATA – Electronic Books of the Public Revenue Authority
Based on Law 1138/2020 and the latest decisions of the Public Revenue Authority, all Greek businesses are required to transmit all their income and expenses to the Public Revenue Authority’s myDATA platform. MyDATA is updated through the following transmission channels:
- ERP, for revenue and expense transmission
- Electronic Invoicing Provider Services, for issuer documents
- FIM information system, only for retail via FIM
- Timologio application of AADE
- Special AADE registration form, with specific criteria
2. Mandatory electronic invoicing for B2G transactions
According to Joint Ministerial Decision 52445/2023 and the timetables set out in the decision, Public suppliers are required to issue an electronic invoice, using the services of an Electronic Invoicing Provider.
3. Mandatory electronic invoicing for B2B transactions
The Hellenic Republic has received approval from the European Union to make electronic invoicing mandatory for B2B transactions. It is important to mention that a decision is expected to be published on the commencement of the relevant obligation.
4. POS interface via YPAHES or FHM
ERP systems play a critical role in the operation and interconnection of POS, especially under the framework of decision A.1155/2023. According to it, each card transaction via POS requires prior approval from either the Ministry of Finance or the Financial Markets Authority. The ERP undertakes to manage this process: it coordinates the POS communication with the appropriate approval mechanism, records the collection and transmits the transaction to the AADE, using the official data submission channels.
5. Digital Inventory Management
With the implementation of Digital Inventory Management, the Ministry of Finance and the Public Revenue Authority are taking another step towards the complete digitalization of tax documents and commercial activity. The Digital Shipping Note concerns the electronic recording and transmission of all goods for movement, enhancing transparency, traceability and tax control.
In this context, the following are required:
- Issuance and transmission of Digital Movement Documents with all necessary data on the myDATA platform (Shipping Note, TDA etc.)
- Real-time monitoring of the movement of goods and stocks
- Integration of logistics and fleet management functions (e.g. drivers, routes, delivery points)
The timely adaptation of businesses to the new Digital Shipping Note regime not only ensures tax compliance, but also offers real business value, from better organization of shipments to a reduction in errors and delays.
6. Digital Customer Service
According to decision A.1057/2025, the Digital Customer Register is the digital customer registration application, which is updated for the issuance of wholesale or retail documents in real time. This specific obligation refers to specific sectors and is expected to be expanded.
The customer is registered in the Digital Customer Register when they enter the business premises. The customer is then informed of the tax information that will be issued and when they leave the business premises, the customer is closed. It is important to mention that the customer registration is updated immediately and in real time upon issuance of the income tax document, either with the MARK of the document, or with the details of the receipt, if a FIH is used.
